STORY

At Wētā Digital, planning and scheduling were two jobs, run by two groups that fought each other.

One group made the plan.

The ideal version, drawn in a vacuum. We both watched it happen at Wētā Digital, on films including the Avatar and Planet of the Apes franchises.

Another made the schedule.

Fitting that plan into the studio as it really was, with the people it really had. The two never quite matched.

Smaller studios have the same gap.

It just lives in one producer's head and a few spreadsheets. Whatdo closes it: every plan is drawn on real capacity from the first bar.

Built with 24 studios.

Interviewed over 18 months. In beta today with studios in France and Italy.

Five things we won't bend on.

01Hours × rates is the DNA.
People are paid full-time whatever the task list says, and the margin maths never pretends otherwise. Better approximately right than precisely wrong.
02We replace the spreadsheet, not the stack.
Your tracker follows shots and deliverables better than we would. Whatdo plans people and money around it.
03Constraints inform. They never veto.
Whatdo tells you a week is tight. It never forbids you from taking the job; making room is part of the work.
04The AI proposes. You approve.
Every change an assistant suggests arrives as a proposal, previewed as a ghost on your timeline. Nothing is committed silently.
05Few screens, deep screens.
A handful of surfaces, each one rich, instead of a maze of menus.
